The Zondervan Publishing House was founded in 1931 in Grandville, Michigan, a suburb of
Grand Rapids, by brothers Bernie and P.J. (Pat) Zondervan.
While Zondervan remains a major Christian book
and Bible publisher, they are no longer in the music business.
Singspiration, the
former music publishing arm of Zondervan, was headed by well-known
Christian composer John W. Peterson for many years, and is now a part
of Provident Music’s Brentwood-Benson
Music Publishing.
Zondervan was in the Christian record business
with it’s Zondervan and Zondervan Victory labels in the 60s, the Singcord label in the 70s,
and Milk & Honey in the 80s.
In 1980, Zondervan along with Paragon Associates purchased
Benson Music.
In 1997, the Benson Music Group was purchased by Zomba Music Group and Provident Music was
formed..
In 1988, Zondervan Publishing House became a
division of HarperCollinsPublishers.
In 1989, Milk &
Honey Records had an address bearing
the name Milk & Honey Enterprises in Franklin, Tennessee with
distribution by Spring Arbor.
